The Department of Chemistry organized Chemistry Association Inauguration on 07.08.2024 in the College Seminar Hall. The Chief Guest Mr. R. Velmayil Murugan, Senior Assistant Gr-1, Resource Group (Public Relations), Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, Kudankulam delivered the Inaugural Address on ‘Nuclear Energy: Safe, Economic and Reliable’. Mr. R. Velmayil Murugan is one of the prominent Alumni, graduated B. Sc., Chemistry from our college in the year 2000. 143 students of B.Sc., Chemistry and M.Sc., Chemistry participated in the programme.
The Department of Chemistry in association with Nuclear Power Corporation of India, Kudankulam, organized a State Level Competition for School students on Nuclear Science and Technology– CS NST 2024 on 17.10.24 at Auditorium. Nuclear Power Corporation of India, Kudankulam sponsored an amount of Rs. 33,000/- for the programme. Mr. N. Sundaravadivel, Senior Manager, Finance & Accounts and Mr. R. Velmayil Murugan, Senior Assistant-I, Human Resource Group, Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, inaugurated the competition. Models of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project were portrayed in the Auditorium. Mr. R. Velmayil Murugan is one of the prominent Alumni, graduated B. Sc., Chemistry from our college in the year 2000. Nearly 2100 participants from Schools and the College visited the exhibition. 158 students from 13 Schools such as Kanchi Sankara Vidhyashramam, Tiruchendur, Kanchi Sri Sankara Academy Matric Higher Secondary School, Tiruchendur, Rose Mary Public School, V.M. Chatram, Pushpalata Vidya Mandir, Palayamkottai, St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School Palayamkottai, Sri Jayendra Swamigal Silver Jubilée Matric Higher Secondary School, Zareena Fathima Matric. Higher Secondary School, Magdalene Matric Higher Secondary School, Sarah Tucker Higher Secondary School for Girls, Pushpalata Matric Higher Secondary School, Servite Matric Higher Secondary School, IIP Laxmi Raman School and Sri Jayendra Swamigal Vidhya Kendra Senior Secondary School participated in the events. The Valedictory Address was delivered by Mr. N. Sundaravadivel, Senior Manager, Finance & Accounts and Mr. R. Velmayil Murugan, Senior Assistant-I, Human Resource Group, Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, at 4.00 pm followed by Prize distribution. The overall Rolling Trophy was won by Pushpalata Vidya Mandir, Tirunelveli. Dr. S. Mahadevan, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Tamil, served as judge for Tamil Elocution, Dr. Dr. K Hema, Assistant Professor, Department of English served as judge for English Elocution, Mr. R. Velmayil Murugan and Mr. N. Sundaravadivel serve as judges for Model Exhibition and Chemgoli. Dr. Dr. A. Syed Mohamed is the Convener, Dr. M. Sheik Muhideen Badhusha is the Co-convener and Dr. M. The Department of Chemistry organized Commemoration Day of Great Nobel Laureates- Akira Yoshino and Alan J. Heeger on 24.01.2025 in the Seminar Hall. Ms. S. M. Aathila and Ms. Krishnaveni, II M. Sc., Chemistry presented the ‘Achievements of Akira Yoshino’ and ‘Achievements of Alan J. Heeger’ respectively. 130 students of B.Sc., Chemistry and M.Sc., Chemistry participated in the programme. Dr. I. Antony Danish organized the programme. Ms. S. M. Aathila and Ms. Krishnaveni of II M. Sc., Chemistry were honored with shield.
The Department of Chemistry in association with Sadakath Outreach Programme (SOP) and Training and Placement Cell organized a Hands- on Training in the Manufacture of House Hold Articles on 29.12.25 at Auditorium. Dr. C. Kannan, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry, Manonmaniam Sundaaranar University, Tirunelveli inaugurated the training. Mr. R. Joseph Vedamanickam, Trainer Chemical, MSME (Govt. of India), DFO, Madurai, Tamilnadu provided “Hands on Training in the Manufacture of House Hold Articles”. 160 students of UG and PG Chemistry participated in the programme and benefitted. 41 students of II B. Sc., Chemistry and 23 students of I M. Sc., Chemistry along with Dr. M. Thameem Ansari and Dr. P. Anvar Kasim went to Burkitmanagaram and gave hands-on training to the public for manufacture of household articles. Dr. A. Syed Mohamed is the Convener, Dr. M. The Department of Chemistry organized Commemoration Day of Rosalind Franklin and Marie-Anne Paulze Lavoisier on 21.02.2025 in the Seminar Hall. The entire programme was organized by women staff and students under SDG5 to conduct Gender Equality recommended by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). K Deepalakshmi and S Kiruthika Rajee, III B.Sc., Chemistry presented the ‘Achievements of Marie-Anne Paulze Lavoisier’ and ‘Achievements of Rosalind Franklin’ respectively. 147 students of B.Sc., Chemistry and M.Sc., Chemistry participated in the programme. M. A. Sabitha organized the programme. K Deepalakshmi and S Kiruthika Rajee, III B.Sc., Chemistry were honored with shield.
The Department of Chemistry in association with Placement Cell organized Chemistry Association Valedictory function on 03.04.2025 in the College Seminar Hall. Dr. T. Bhaskar, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, Rani Anna Government College for Women, Tirunelveli delivered the Valedictory Address on ‘Career Opportunities for Chemistry Graduates’. Dr. A. Syed Mohamed, Head of the department honored the retiring faculty Dr. T. Bhaskar with shield. 149 students of B.Sc., Chemistry and M.Sc., Chemistry participated in the programme. Chemistry Model Making Competition was conducted for B. Sc., and M. Sc., Chemistry students. The topics for B. Sc., students are Newman Projection Formulae/ Sawhorse Projection Formulae and Hybridization. For M. Sc., students, the topic is ‘Role of Chemistry in Energy Conservation’. Dr. S. M. Abdul Kader, Dr. S. M. A. Syed Mohamed Khaja, Dr. A. Syed Mohamed, and Chief Guest Dr. T. Bhaskar distributed the prizes to the winners of Model Making Competition. Dr. M. A.
